The plant likes sunny locations, but can also tolerate partial shade.

Always water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.

It can withstand temperatures down to -6.7 °C °C for short periods. However, the plant is not frost-resistant.

TIP for you:

An interesting feature is the longitudinal brown stripes on the underside of the leaves — a subtle detail that catches the eye at first glance.

Aeonium spathulatum occurs on the Canary Islands of La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, where it grows at elevations ranging from about 250 to 2,500 meters above sea level. It is also involved in the origin of natural hybrids such as Aeonium × hybridum and Aeonium × loartei.

The leaves are green and turn reddish under strong light. The underside is marked with distinctive longitudinal brown stripes. Leaves are slightly sticky to the touch and reach up to about 2.5 cm in length and around 1 cm in width. They form flattened to distinctly bowl-shaped rosettes, which can grow to roughly 5 cm in diameter. The plant develops as a small, densely branched succulent shrub.

The plant flowers after several years of growth. The flowers are star-shaped and appear on mature specimens.

Aeonium spathulatum is an undemanding species that is easy to grow under suitable conditions.
