Adromischus hemisphaericus Silver
The plant likes a sunny location.
Water a few days after the substrate has dried out. Reduce watering in winter.
It can withstand temperatures as low as -1.1 °C for short periods. However, the plant is not frost-resistant.
Do not touch the leaves unnecessarily — the wax coating is easily damaged and difficult to restore.
Adromischus hemisphaericus Silver originates from South Africa and occurs on the Cape Peninsula, occasionally also in the Hottentots Holland mountains and further east from Caledon to Worcester. This form is valued for its lighter, silvery appearance of the leaves.
The plant forms a small succulent shrub with stems that may grow upright at first and later become trailing. The leaves are oblanceolate to obovate, reaching up to about 4.5 cm in length and around 3 cm in width. They are grey-green, sometimes with darker spotting, and the surface may show a fine peeling waxy coating. With age, the plant can develop a firmer trunk-like stem and grow up to about 25 cm tall.
The flowers appear on upright stalks that can reach up to about 30 cm in height. They have a green tube and fused pink lobes, typical of the genus Adromischus.
Adromischus hemisphaericus Silver is a slow-growing plant that prefers a bright position and well-draining soil. Watering should be done carefully only several days after the soil has completely dried out, and fertilising is usually not necessary. If you are looking for a small Adromischus with silvery leaves and a shrubby habit, this form is an excellent choice for a collection.
