Pachypodium

The genus Pachypodium includes succulent or caudiciform plants native to Madagascar and southern Africa. It is characterized by thickened trunks or stems used for water storage and by prominent spines. Leaves grow mainly at the stem tips and are often seasonal. In nature, these plants occur in dry and sunny habitats. In cultivation, Pachypodium requires bright light, warmth, and a very well-drained substrate.
